The LATCH System, which stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, is designed to protect children in safety seats and ensure those seats are correctly installed without relying on the vehicle’s seatbelt system. You’ll have at least two different position options to pick from when you use the LATCH system in your vehicle. They consist of small bars, or anchors, which are found between the rear seat back and the seat cushion, and top tethers, which are located either by the rear window or on the floor, depending on the body style of your vehicle. To use the LATCH system, begin by hooking the lower anchors to the car seat, with one hook or buckle on each side. Attach the top tether, which has a buckle on the end, to the top of the child’s seat. The seat should not be able to move more than an inch if it is installed correctly. There are a few things to consider when using the LATCH system. It should not be used in tandem with the car’s seatbelts. Only use one or the other. Make sure you’re using a LATCH-compatible car seat, and remember that front-facing car seats typically need both the top and bottom connections, while rear-facing ones require only the bottom.
